Trabocco Coast, Abruzzo, Italy
known as the ‘Region of Parks’ Abruzzo is a large network of national and regional parks, Abruzzo has the tallest peaks in the Apennine range, with a lanscape of forested mountains and hills dotted with fortified medieval villages, churches and castles. From the Appennine Mountains to the Adriatic Sea, Abruzzo has the charm of the ‘Costa dei Trabocchi’. a rugged coastline that stretches from Pescara South to the pretty town of Vasto. A Trabocco is a wooden fishing “machine” called “overflow” that sits in the Adriatic Sea. It’s spider like structure hangs over the sea supporting a huge net and connected only to the land by seemingly fragile walkways.
We use a private vehicle for photo locations; we visit several Trabocchi, the historic Abbey of Sn Giovani in Venere with panoramic views overlooking the Fossacesia coastline and the British War Cemetery at Torino di Sangro. We head inland visiting medieval villages such as Roccascalegna, Gessopalena, and Altio set in rural countryside with views of the Majella Mountains. Through motivating, practical sessions you’ll learn more about your camera and various techniques to capture stunning images. Abruzzo offers photographic opportunities galore and throughout we can enjoy typical Abruzzi food and wine.
Our accommodation is Villa Fruttanoce, set amidst vineyards and olive groves with beatiful views across to the Apenne Mountains. At Fruttacoce you’ll find relaxed and comfortable accommodation with good sized rooms, well fitted kitchens and bathrooms and plenty of space to spread out and relax on the three terraces and around the swimming pool. All within minutes of the Adriatic’s blue-flagged beaches and close to the Majella National Park, making it the perfect base for our photography holiday.
